Hey, nice to see you here. I am Mayke Drost and I am the owner of Mondeling Logopedie.
You probably came to this site because you are curious about who I am and what I do. Well, we already have something in common, because I am also very curious. That's why I initially chose to become a journalist. For 10 years I was an editor, side-kick, and voice-over at regional, public, and commercial radio stations. Super fun! But because I was curious about what else I could do, I decided to change course and go back to school.
I had already experienced the effect of speech therapy myself; at the age of 14, I was referred to the speech therapist by the orthodontist because of an incorrect swallow. That strange swallow was hindering the orthodontic treatment. Through exercises with mini-elastics, buttons, applesauce, and cookies from my own speech therapist, Mrs. Frantzen, I learned how to swallow correctly and my muscles got the right balance. How cool is it that you can influence your own treatment at the orthodontist like that?
During my training, I became more fascinated by this treatment method. I delved into it and wanted to specialize further in it. I still do. And every day I learn more. By reading, but especially because no patient is the same.
I am Hadeel Maktoub and I work on Wednesdays as a freelance speech therapist at Mondeling Logopedie on the Havenstraat.
As a speech therapist, I specialize in working with children. I help children who need support with swallowing, oral muscle balance or breathing. Every child is unique, and that's why I always tailor my treatments to what the child needs and can handle. In my work, I create a safe, playful environment where children feel comfortable and are motivated to learn. I work closely with parents, and when necessary with teachers and other involved parties, to optimally support the child's development.
